Why Get Smart?
Rates for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like chlamydia, gonorrhea and HIV continue to increase amongst youth in Ottawa.
So far this year, youth 15-29 account for 79% of chlamydia and gonorrhea diagnoses in Ottawa. Not using a condom is the top risk factor among individuals diagnosed with an STI: In 2010, nearly 75% of people diagnosed reported not using one. Condoms, when used correctly and consistently, are an effective method to prevent STIs and unplanned pregnancies.
That's why we’re launching Sex it Smart, a new condom campaign for youth! We want to raise awareness about condoms and improve access on how to get FREE condoms in the city!
Check out the site, and check back often as there’s lots of new and interactive stuff coming!
