Why Get Smart?
Rates for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like chlamydia, gonorrhea and HIV continue to increase amongst youth in Ottawa.
Not using a condom is the top risk factor among individuals diagnosed with an STI: About a third of sexually active 15-29 year olds in Ottawa did not use a condom the last time they had sex. 15-29 year olds account for approximately three-quarters of 2013 Chlamydia and Gonorrhea diagneses in Ottawa. Condoms, when used correctly and consistently, are an effective method to prevent STIs and unplanned pregnancies.
That's why we launched Sex It Smart, a new condom campaign for youth.
We want to raise awareness about condoms and improve access on how to get FREE condoms in the city!
