Why Sex it Smart?

Rates for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) like Chlamydia and gonorrhea continue to increase amongst youth in Ottawa.

Not using a condom is the top risk factor listed by individuals diagnosed with an STI: 44% of sexually active single 15-29 year olds in Ottawa did not use a condom the last time they had sex. 15-29 year olds account for approximately three-quarters (77%) of Chlamydia and gonorrhea diagnoses in Ottawa in 2015. Condoms, when used correctly and consistently, are an effective method to prevent STIs and unintended pregnancies.
